Daughter and Sons

One of several Daughter’s Day and Son’s Day was this week. I am so grateful to celebrated and call these kids my daughter and son. Each amazing, unique and different in their own way. I have learned so much from each of them. As they continue to grow, pray they walk in way of the Lord- sharing his love and grace.

Sweet Tea Festival

Today Ashleigh and I had a day of fun beginning with visiting Barnes and Nobel to purchase a book for her in regards to the Kaplan Nursing test. We also bought some other books, browsed some fun sections including journals and an area of small games and fun items such as Twister using finger socks. Later in the day, we visited the Sweet Tea Festival tasting various teas and completed part of the sweet tea trail. We both got stickers and tasted teas, as well as, visited her favorite coffee shop.

Post Hurricane

Ironically my TimeHop today showed a meme about the hurricane last year. We are post Dorian and the last couple of days other than debris and clean up, you’d never know a hurricane happened. The weather has been gorgeous. The boys have cleaned debris in the yard and we are able to take the trash out for Tuesday pick up. We definitely can’t wait because the trash is bulging. I sure wish we had recycle pick up option without the big price tag. The refrigerator is filled with our food and Ashleigh’s perishables for a couple more days. She is going back to dorm life tonight. We have enjoyed our time after being foodies along with Chris  and shopping therapy. We ate a lovely dinner on Saturday to enjoy restaurant week at Blossoms (sorry no pics). Chris and I had a nice sampling during Happy Hour at a little restaurant downtown with various Asian appetizers. They were delicious. Going to work and school is going to be hard, but a routine is needed. Tutoring starts for me too this week. So it will be busy!

Hurrication Dorian

Hurricane Dorian has come and the winds and rains are continuing but the most of the storm is gone. Thankfully we are safe! We waited for several days for the storm and even made the joke that nothing is slower than Dorian except Dylan (even in alphabetical order). Walking the trails and finding rocks also mean talking and spending time with my girl. Chris walked too one of the afternoons.. Also Ashleigh has been able to spend time with friends. This morning in our prayer Ash was thankful for a beautiful day. Beautiful was questioned ,  but yes- even through the storm we were able to see beauty. We talked about how breathing, being together, wind and rain, and such bring beauty.  Our family has been able to spend time together and  each spend time alone as well- whether it be studying or reading or reading and studying or putting lights in the Jeep. We have had breakfast each morning together, spent time watching movies, and playing games. Chris and Austin made a tin can robot. It actually walks too. Its strawlike arms enable it to do all kind of things- the Dab, a heart , or just out. The google eyes wiggle. Chompers is unsure if it, but that’s ok. Ashleigh went for a walk complete with her rain boots and rain jacket. Popcorn, pralines, and peanut brittle (the last two from an outing downtown over the weekend prior to this one) have been treats. Laundry is complete except for what we wore today  This includes the blankets we enjoy. We lost power this morning but it came back on shortly after it left. We have had power the rest of the day. We have lost some shingles but nothing like many neighbors or that can’t easily be replaced. Chris drove around and assessed the damage of trees and such. He was needing to get out so he drove to the neighborhood he is working in currently. He also worked on the blue rocket. Actually he is making a center console for it. All in all we aren’t going stir crazy! Prayers for those in the path of destruction and the coming days ahead as we look past Dorian.  The little break was unexpected and a little earlier this year, but spending quality time with all of us is always a treat!

Year 23

First Day with students and year 23. This is also the first year in 13 years that I do not have any of my kids at a school with me. Austin started middle school in 5th grade this year. Dylan is a sophomore at the high school near our home and where he attended last year. Ashleigh is a freshman at CSU. I am teaching 3rd grade and am excited about the school year. The cookies are a treat I received from a student on the first day.
