Austin gets braces

Braces for Austin… he will wear them for 2 years

Geese 2

Chris and I spend our afternoons and early evenings with the geese. Another goose a couple days after the tragedy with Lucy showed up and was rescued because it had a lump under its beak. Shortly after another goose showed and joined Lou. We named it Daisy. She and Lou would see Chris and I and instantly come to us. They even flew across the pond over us. Daisy will come to the patio and almost to the door. She honks each morning for Chris too.

Geese

This spring brought two geese to make a nest near the pond behind our house. We watched these geese for several weeks. We even named them Lucy and Lou. Then tragedy struck. One morning Chris had taken out Chompers and discovered that the mama goose had been attacked and killed. I was distraught, but I remembered about a lady in our neighborhood that volunteered for rescue. That morning which was also the first day of SC Ready testing, I reached out to her about the eggs. She was able to rescue and incubate 3 of the 5 eggs. The other two had been pierced and blood was present. I kept in contact with her and had asked her that if the eggs hatched before they were taken to a more permanent rescue to send me goslings photos. We weren’t sure if the eggs would hatch, but that Sunday evening only 5 days after the attack they hatched. We had since kept watch over the daddy. He was mopey and sad. We went out and talked to him and fed him oats and peas. He would hiss at us but he recognized us and would come to us. Anyway after the fillings hatched, the rescue lady was able to clean them in her bathtub and had been watching for a family to place them with because geese will take in other goslings as their own. She sent me the video of this and I cried. It was so cute! The goslings practically jumped and flitter ran to join their family. The new family now had 8 goslings.

Lucy diligently sitting on her nest everyday!
Lou protecting the area where the nest is located.
The remaining eggs that didn’t survive.
Lou after the tragedy protecting the nest.

Sad Lou

The goslings hatch. 2 hatch and then the last one hatches.
All ready to meet their family. They swam and are in the bathtub.
Release and the daddy is hinking telling them to come one
Acceptance- it’s so amazing how these animals adopt other goslings as their own.
And they are off— Eventually these two run and flitter into the group.

Swimming as a family of 10! 8 goslings and mom and dad

A happy ending!

Little update

The school year is closing soon….

Teacher Appreciation Week has past and SCReady test lint is complete for me and my students !! I am ready for summer break, but most of all I’m ready to relax and refresh. I am hopeful to learn more about plants and gardening, crochet, go to the beach, and go on vacation!

My little garden is growing nicely. I have several tomato plants and one cucumber. I am tending to two tomatoes and a blueberry that I’m surprising Ashleigh with when we visit at the end of May.

Dylan is enjoying school. One day his teacher ended up with her baby at one of their outings and he told his teacher “ I got this!” as he was talking and watching her baby while she was helping others

Austin is playing soccer and the choirs had the bridge concert. This week he is preparing for the big end of the year event, the Variety Show, which is tomorrow.

Chris and Jim have been working on several projects on the blue rocket for several months and years including a new paint job, totaling rewiring, motor, transmission, air conditioning, and so many other projects and just recently they cranked it up!! Tonight he sanded the top and it will be painted again soon

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was relaxing. We went to church and the guys cleaned my car! It was a great way to end the week filled with Teacher Appreciation gifts all week I was gifted with sweet treats and little notes and flowers too by my parents and students.
